I mentioned a while ago that we had bought a house and would give you more details later. We have bought a very large 4 bedroomed ‘double upper’ in the Centre of Aberdeen. Double Uppers are very common in Aberdeen – it’s when the building is split into 2 self contained flats, the ground floor and then the larger 1st floor which also has an upstairs hence double upper. [For my Norwegian readers I think they call it a tomannsbolig?].
It’s got 4 bedrooms, 2 reception rooms, dining kitchen and 2 bathrooms. Alas no en-suite this time, how will I cope? As it’s about 110 years old it has traditional high ceilings and cornicing and original fireplaces. As they say, full of character. It’s a far cry from the new build houses we’ve had in the past.
We still own our house in Glasgow and plan to keep it for now as it’s being rented out. So, as you can imagine, we’re haemorrhaging money at the moment.
We get the keys on the 29th May and officially move in on the 3rd June. And, as the title suggests, this will be our 12th house in 12 years!!! Scary. As this is our own house, the plan is to stay there for a few years but you just never know what’s round the corner! In case you’re interested, here’s the list…
Attic flat in George Street – 1996
1 bedroomed flat in Whitehall Place – 1997
2 bedroomed flat in Albury Mansions (our first owned property) – 1997
3 bedroomed semi in Cove – 1999
